If you've ever considered permanent hair eradication, there are basically only two viable options that will leave you with smooth skin - electrolysis and laser hair removal. Of these options, the most effective is electrolysis, because there can be regrowth even after multiple laser sessions.

Electrolysis takes more time to complete as it is a more intensive process that focuses on individual follicles, but it offers a life-long guarantee of smooth skin in a way that laser simply cannot guarantee for everyone. In fact, according to the FDA, electrolysis is the only permanent removal technique that can be advertised as such - laser is officially viewed as a method of reducing growth rather than for outright elimination.

For electrolysis treatment, the practitioner inserts a metal probe into the follicle, of the same or a smaller thickness than the hair itself. The electrical current and its duration typically start at the minimum setting, and then gradually increase until the hair comes out easily. Of course, if the patient is experiencing discomfort, the settings can be lowered, but these basic principles are true of all the electrology techniques.

The three techniques in use are overheating, the galvanic method (which utilizes the formation of sodium hydroxide), and a combination of the two. The galvanic method is the oldest of these, dating back to the 1870s, and was first used as a technique for removing ingrown eyelashes. The overheating method, known as thermolysis, works by heating the matrix cells to a higher temperature (but not enough to actually burn the skin tissue), and the device essentially works in the same manner as a radio transmitter. The combined method is more recent in invention and combines the advantages of both of these. All are effective.

The complete eradication of male-pattern facial growth takes around two years in total on average, assuming weekly hour-long sessions. For other parts of your body, it's a much shorter process. Our technicians at Pure Laser USA are both licensed and one of the best places in Michigan to serve your needs. We also specialize in laser treatment, and we’ll be more than happy to advise you on whether electrolysis or laser will be the best technique for you - electrolysis is extremely effective for permanent removal, but is more time-consuming than laser and we’ll certainly be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.
